President's Corner

Dear Members,

It is hard to believe that the first quarter of 2013 is now history! Spring is here, which means we are now underway with the HBA's 31st Annual Spring Golf Classic! Brian Dona, and the Golf committee have committed themselves to keeping this popular event FUN and INTERESTING! With that being said, let me remind you a portion of this tournament supports our commitment to the HBAA Scholarship Fund. So as much fun as this event is, it's also important, as it sustains our program that offers educational assistance to students who will be tomorrows professionals working in the construction industry. For your convenience in this publication is a Golf registration form, please take a moment to register your company's sponsorship or team, while opportunities are still available and send it in today! This is a do not miss event!

Speaking of missing, I regret I wasn't able to attend the Bird Supper. A BIG thank you goes to Allan Turner, Paula Buckles and Buck Roberts who went and represented our local. Buck delivered our HBA's Heroes Auction item, which was a Football, signed by Danny Ford, Clemson's National Champion Coach. I have been told it brought in $150, which beat out some items that had a auction value of over $300. I understand that the food, Heroes auction and our legislators were all well received. If you never been to the Bird Supper I would highly recommend that you try to make it next year.

Mark your calendars now, because Gateway Supply Company
is hosting the May 14th General Membership Meeting (GMM) at their showroom located at 5299 Hwy. 76. The meal is FREE and they always make us feel right at home, not to mention we learn about the very latest products and services that are available to us and our customers. So I will be looking for everyone at that meeting and let's support Gateway for being such a generous host!

Also remember to call (864) 226-0347 or E-mail the HBA: hbaasc@Gmail.com with your company's total reservations so Gateway Supply can make the proper arrangements. If Dino is on the other line or away from the office please leave her a voice message with that information.

Again, thank you to all our sponsors, committees and members for everyone's continued support and dedication to making our HBA such a strong organization!

Let's stay busy and I look forward to seeing you at Gateway Supply!

Sincerely,

Dwight Edwards

Message to Landlords, Property Managers, Realtors & Builders from Duke Energy

New Duke Energy security deposit assessments: What you need to know.

Beginning February 23, 2013, Duke Energy will review internal credit history for all

builders, property managers, landlords and realtors when they request new electric service. If a customer has not established a satisfactory credit history – or has no credit history – a security deposit will be required before new service can be established. In addition, builders, property managers, landlords and realtors must settle any unpaid obligations prior to establishing new electric service accounts. Our credit evaluation is based on regulatory guidelines.

You will NOT be assessed a security deposit if you’ve established a satisfactory credit history. An account has a satisfactory credit history if electric service has been active for more than 12 consecutive billing months, and during the past 12 months:

  • Service has never been disconnected for nonpayment of the bill.
  • There have been no more than two past due bills.

You will be assessed a security deposit if your credit history is unsatisfactory. If you do not have a satisfactory credit history established with Duke Energy – or if you have not yet established a credit history – you will be assessed a security deposit when establishing new service. An account has an unsatisfactory credit history if there are unpaid bills, or if, during the past 12 months:

  • There have been more than two past due bills.
  • Service was disconnected for nonpayment of the bill.

You can avoid paying a security deposit by establishing a satisfactory credit history.

  • Maintain a satisfactory payment record by paying all accounts on time, before the past due date.

Security deposit amounts

  • Residential permanent service for builders, property managers, landlords and realtors: $50.
  • Non-residential permanent service for builders, property managers, landlords and realtors:
    • If contract demand is less than or equal to 15 kilowatts (kW): $100.
    • If contract demand is between 16 kW and 30 kW: $200.
    • If contract demand is greater than or equal to 31 kW: The security amount will be
    • determined based on kilowatt load and assessment of the customer's credit.
