South Carolina SenateThe Senate is composed of 46 Senators elected Nov. 7, 2000, for terms of four(4) years - until Monday after the November general session in 2004. Democrats: 22; Republicans: 24.
South Carolina HouseThe House is composed of 124 representatives elected Nov. 7, 2000, for terms of two(2) years - until Monday after the general election in 2002. Republicans: 70; Democrats: 54.
South Carolina Capitol FactsWhere: The state capitol is on Gervais Street between Assembly and Main Streets in Columbia.
Parking: The public can park in metered spaces on several streets surrounding the Capitol, including Gervais, Pendleton, Assembly, South Main and Sumter streets.
Tours: Offered from 9am - noon and 1:30pm - 4:00pm on weekdays and from 10:30am - 11:00am and 1:30pm - 3:30 pm on Saturdays. Guided tours are free and leave every half hour from the Capitol Gift Shop. For more information or reservations for groups of 10 or more, call (803) 734-2430.
Hours: The newly renovated Capitol is open from 9am to 5pm on weekdays and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays, except the 1st Saturday of every month when the hours are 1pm to 5pm.
Legislators Offices: The State's 46 Senators have office in the Gressette Building. The 124 House members have offices in the Blatt Building.
